PPC Makes Big Plans For Country’s Development

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands, (Monday, July 20, 2009) - Earlier this month, PPC Ltd and Wärtsilä Finland OY, entered into an agreement whereby PPC purchased two 20v32 diesel-generating engines with a total aggregate gross capacity of 17.46 Mega Watts (MW), for delivery from the factory in Finland in April 2010 and January 2011.

Wärtsilä OY Corporation, headquartered in Finland, is one of the World’s largest producers of large diesel generators and auxiliary equipment.  Wärtsilä has a large presence in the Caribbean where a number of utility companies utilize Wärtsilä generators and auxiliary equipment, which are known worldwide for their reliability and efficiency.

The estimated cost of PPC’s 2010/2011 Generation Expansion Project, including the two Wärtsilä generators, is approximately $20million. The new family of engines will be housed in state-of-art-buildings with levels of wind resistance, exhaust and sound attenuating technologies that are amongst the best in the world.  The new engines, which are more than twice the size of PPC’s current largest engines, will be commissioned in time to meet forecast demand growth over the next two-to-three years, and will bring PPC’s installed capacity to 71 Megawatts.
